Uptown Westerville is a Place to Say Good-bye to Household Hazardous

September 5th is not just the beginning of Buckeye and Otterbein College football season!

Westerville Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Saturday, 09.05.09 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Service Department Building, located at 350 Park Meadow Road. Enter from Schrock Road, you'll see signs.

Here's the low-down: Household hazardous wastes are materials that can cause injury or harm if handled or disposed of improperly. Hazardous materials include pool chemicals, acids and caustics, lighter fluids, paint thinner, turpentine, adhesives, non-latex paint, old gasoline, propane tanks, kerosene, weed killers, antifreeze, insect killers, mercury, batteries, and ammunition/gun powder.

Unwanted computers and computer-related equipment will also be collected at the site.

For more information about the hazardous waste collection, call the Westerville Service Department at 614.901.6740. For more info on waste disposal in this area, visit SWACO online: http://www.swaco.org/

Non-acceptable items include tires, regular trash, items from schools or businesses, LPG tanks larger than 20 pounds, needles or medical waste, and appliances.

And, Latex paint can now be discarded with refuse, and will not be included in the hazardous waste collection.

This is a smooth operation, you pull up and they do the rest. A good thing!
